My goal as a frame builder is to produce quality bicycles that maximize the rider's cycling experience. Fit, handling, and dependability are all optimized in each S.L. Walters custom frame.

My roots are in mountain biking, but I ride and build many types of bikes. They include mountain, road, cyclocross, touring, and single speeds. Each frame is a unique creation, designed to fit the rider and their type of riding. Special features and options are available to complete the total custom package.

When it comes to frame material selection, steel is the only choice! There are many materials that are adequate for frame construction, but when it comes down to picking the best, chrome-moly steel always comes out on top. Steel has the best balance of strength, weight, fatigue life, stiffness, and cost.

There are many ways to build a frame, but brazing is by far the best method for steel. You cannot beat the durability increase that low temperature brazing provides. All of my frames are either silver brazed with Henry James Lugs or fillet brazed with brass. I prefer to build with lugs, but if a design falls out of the boundaries of lugs then I will fillet braze. No TIG welding here. I have seen too many welded frames fail in fatigue. Many of these frames would have never failed if they had been lugged or fillet brazed.

All S.L. Walters frames receive a durable, environmentally friendly powder coat finish. Basic single coats are available, as well as unique double coats in textured and metallic finishes. Traditional, solvent-based paint jobs are also available upon request.

All S.L. Walters frames are guaranteed for life. I do not build disposable, one season frames. I build dependable machines that will see the rider through it all. If there are any problems, I back up my products one hundred percent.
